4,6-Decadiyne is a cyclopentenone that can polymerize under acidic conditions. It has been used as an additive in lubricants and paints. The reactive nature of 4,6-Decadiyne makes it ideal for use as a cross-linker in polymers. It has also been employed as a viscosity agent in the manufacture of animal feeds and synthetic resins. 4,6-Decadiyne has also been used to make 4,6-decadiene methanol (DDM) which is an intermediate in the production of certain pesticides and herbicides. 4,6-Decadiyne has shown potential for use as a fluorescent probe for virus detection by x-ray diffraction study.
