Methyl 5-bromo-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylate is a synthesized pyrrole that can be prepared from 1,2-dibromoethane and methyl acetoacetate. It can also be prepared by the bromination of methyl 5-nitro-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylate with NBS in acetic acid. Methyl 5-bromo-1H-pyrrole-3 -carboxylate is a versatile electrophilic reagent that can undergo Friedel-Crafts reactions such as acetylation and isopropylation. This compound has been used to synthesize a number of organic compounds including antihistamines, antihypertensives, and antibiotics.
