Description:
5-Fluorocytosine is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the ribose of guanine in RNA. It binds to the rRNA sequence and alters its structure. This drug has been shown to bind to mismatched sequences, with a binding constant of about 10-4 M. 5-Fluorocytosine has been shown to interact with hydrogen bonding and is capable of forming a fluorescent complex with fluorescein. The techniques used for determining this interaction include fluorescence spectroscopy and fluorescence polarization.
