Copper(II) pyrophosphate hydrate is a synthetic reagent for use as an additive, modifier or catalyst in organic synthesis. This reagent can be used to produce amines from alcohols and ammonia by reductive amination. It also has antibacterial properties and is activated by chloride ions. Copper(II) pyrophosphate hydrate is often used as a biocide in the treatment of drinking water and industrial water systems. This compound is composed of particles with diameters less than 0.1 μm that are insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanolamine and diethanolamine.br>
Copper(II) pyrophosphate hydrate can be used as a catalyst for the production of piperazine from pyridine and ethylamine. The reaction proceeds through the formation of ethylenediamine, which reacts with piperazine to form piperazine hydrochloride.
