2,2-Dibromo-1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione is a developable photoactive compound that is used in the production of lithographic plates. This chemical is sensitive to ultraviolet radiation and ionizing radiation. 2,2-Dibromo-1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione has an ionization potential of 6.6 eV and a halogen bond type. It undergoes thermal decomposition at temperatures above 300 °C and is labile under acidic conditions. 2,2-Dibromo-1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione irreversibly reacts with phosphine to form dibromophosphine oxide and dioxetane. This chemical also reacts with water or alcohols to form hydrobromic acid or hydroiodic acid respectively.
