Mearnsetin is a flavonoid derivative that is found in the leaves of M. erythrophylla and other species of the genus Murraya. Mearnsetin has been shown to have anti-cancer effects in vitro and in vivo, as well as anti-inflammatory properties. It is also a potent inhibitor of tyrosinase, an enzyme that produces melanin pigment in skin cells. Mearnsetin has been shown to inhibit the growth of liver cells by suppressing glucose production and increasing insulin sensitivity. Mearnsetin can be extracted from the leaves of Murraya plants using acetate, which yields a yellowish brown liquid with a strong odor and taste.
