1-Phenacylpyridinium Bromide is a molecule that contains a chlorine atom. It has been used to treat metabolic disorders such as hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis. 1-Phenacylpyridinium Bromide reacts with hydrogen fluoride in anhydrous sodium to form an aromatic hydrocarbon and trifluoroacetic acid. The light emission from this reaction has been shown to be proportional to the concentration of the aromatic hydrocarbon. 1-Phenacylpyridinium Bromide also emits light when heated; this has been shown by gravimetric analysis, which is a technique used for measuring mass or weight. This molecule is structurally similar to pyridinium salts, which contain nitrogen atoms at their center, and can be identified using nmr spectra.
