Product Information
Thiochroman-3-one is a sulfinyl compound that is synthesized by the reaction of diisobutylaluminium with an active methylene. It is a chiral molecule, which means it cannot be superimposed on its mirror image. Thiochroman-3-one has two asymmetric carbon atoms and can exist as four possible isomers. The conformational and desymmetrization of the molecule are essential for its biological activity. Thiochroman-3-one has been shown to react with nitrite to form a chiral thiocyanate, which can be used in asymmetric synthesis. Nature produces this compound in small quantities, but it is not known what function it serves.
