Product Information
Hexamethonium chloride dihydrate (HMC) is a phosphonium salt that acts as a competitive antagonist of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. HMC is used as a drug to treat patients with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disorder where acetylcholine receptors are blocked by antibodies. HMC acts by blocking the action of dopamine β-hydroxylase, preventing the production of noradrenaline and epinephrine. This drug also has surfactant properties and can be used as a coupling agent in organic synthesis. It reacts with silicon to form hexamethoxysilane, which can then be used in the synthesis of polymers.
