Description:

2,4-Dichloro-5-isopropoxyaniline is a chemical compound that is used in the production of herbicides. It can be synthesized by reacting 2,4-dichloroaniline with acetone. The reaction produces two products: 2,4-dichloroacetophenone and 5-isopropoxybenzeneacetic acid. This process is catalyzed by Raney nickel and hydrogen gas. The yield of this reaction is low because impurities are difficult to remove from the product solution. Impurities can be removed through filtration or distillation; however, these processes require additional time and expense.
