Description:
3-Nitro-5-iodobenzotrifluoride is a compound that shows high activity as a secretagogue, being able to stimulate the release of growth hormone. It is synthesized by reductive cyclisation of 3-amino-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran with 2,5-diiodoethanol in the presence of acetic acid and sodium acetate. The product is then hydrolysed to its corresponding amine and iodination with nitrous acid in acetic acid yields the desired 3-nitro-5-iodobenzotrifluoride. This compound is used as a starting material for the synthesis of other compounds such as oxindole derivatives.
