Product Information
Methyl 8-chloro-8-oxooctanoate (C8) is a fatty acid that inhibits the activity of fatty acid synthase, an enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of fatty acids. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in human skin fibroblasts and cancer cells by inhibiting mitochondrial β-oxidation of long chain fatty acids. C8 also induces β-oxidation of other lipids, including conjugates and amides. This compound is taken up by the cell through uptake mechanisms. However, it does not have any effect on cellular DNA or histone H3 levels.
