4,5-Dihydro-1H-benzo[d][1,3]diazepin-2(3H)-one is a synthetic hormone that belongs to the calcitonin family. It has been used as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent in veterinary medicine. 4,5-Dihydro-1H-benzo[d][1,3]diazepin-2(3H)-one has also been used to treat osteoporosis. This drug binds to the receptor on bone cells and inhibits the release of calcium ions from the bone matrix. This leads to a decrease in serum calcium levels and less absorption of dietary phosphate. It also prevents the formation of new bone by inhibiting osteoblasts from producing new bone matrix proteins.
