Description:

5-Methoxy-2-nitrobenzamide is a reagent that can be used in the oxychloride process for the production of phosphorus oxychloride from phosphoric acid. This compound reacts with chloride to form 5-methoxy-2-nitrobenzoic acid, which can be identified by gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy. When heated at high temperatures, this substance undergoes thermolysis and releases nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen chloride. 5-Methoxy-2-nitrobenzamide has been identified as an environmental pollutant in its own right, as well as being present in the environment due to its use in the production of other substances.
