1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Tricyanomethanide is a quaternary ammonium salt that has been used as a phase transfer catalyst for organic reactions. This compound is soluble in organic solvents and can be used to form ionic, ternary mixtures with aliphatic hydrocarbons. 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Tricyanomethanide has the highest values of viscosity when dissolved in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent. It is soluble at high temperatures, but loses its solubility at lower temperatures due to the formation of a ruthenium complex. The phase transition temperature for this compound is around 60°C.
