2-Desoxy-2-(3-methyl-3-nitrosoureido)-D-glucopyranose is a monosaccharide derivative of glucose that has been shown to inhibit the activity of DNA polymerase. This compound has been used in the development of anticancer drugs and for the treatment of diabetes. 2-Desoxy-2-(3-methyl-3-nitrosoureido)-D-glucopyranose binds to insulin receptors on cells and blocks the binding of insulin, resulting in an antihypoglycemic effect. The compound also inhibits cancer cell growth by blocking cellular proliferation and inducing apoptosis, as well as inhibiting atherosclerotic lesions by decreasing the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α and interleukin 1β.
