Melatonin-d4 is a high-quality synthetic melatonin analog with a deuterium atom at the 4th position of the indole ring. This compound has been shown to be a good candidate for detection of melatonin in biological fluids and tissues. Melatonin-d4 can be used as an internal standard for calibrating radioimmunoassays and immunoassays that measure melatonin, or it can be used in research to study the potential mechanism of action of this hormone. The advantage of using this analog is that it does not have any solvent effect on chromatographic analysis, and its deuterium atom makes it possible to use nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy instead of gas chromatography.
