It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antiatherosclerotic properties. 3-Amino-5-phenylpentanoic acid is also used as a chiral modifier in chromatographic methods, such as liquid chromatography. It can be used as an acidic modifier in preparative elution with aminopropyl columns. The stereoisomers of 3-amino-5-phenylpentanoic acid are racemic, which means they contain two enantiomers, but only one enantiomer may be present. This experimentally determined property can be used to determine the purity of this compound.
