Product Information
- (3R)-3-Amino-5-methylhexanoic acid
- Hexanoic acid, 3-amino-5-methyl-, (3R)-
(R)-3-Amino-5-methyl-hexanoic acid is a chiral β-amino acid that has been synthesized from (S)-2,4-diaminobutyric acid. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme serine hydroxymethyltransferase and has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of glycine in the presence of pyridoxal. The enantiopure form of (R)-3-amino-5-methyl hexanoic acid was crystallized with x-ray diffraction, showing that it can bind to the active site of serine hydroxymethyltransferase. Enantiopure (R)-3-amino 5 methyl hexanoic acid binds to the active site by hydrogen bonding with Ser195 and Thr225. The specificity of this binding may be due to its structural similarity to glycine. Bioactivities include inhibition of growth in yeast cells and inhibition of rat liver mitochondrial respiration
