3-(2-Bromophenyl)prop-2-yn-1-ol is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits tumor growth and amine metabolism. It binds to lysine residues on histones, causing the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This leads to cell death by inhibiting DNA synthesis and RNA transcription. 3-(2-Bromophenyl)prop-2-yn-1-ol also has cancer chemopreventive properties and is used in research for its ability to minimize cancer cell death. 3-(2-Bromophenyl)prop-2-yn-1-ol has been shown to be effective against cervical cancer cells and colon cancer cells.
