4-Amino-3-hydroxypiperidine is a chemical compound with two isomers, (-)-4-amino-3-hydroxypiperidine and (+)-4-amino-3-hydroxypiperidine. It has been shown to have an antidepressant effect in monkeys and can be used for the treatment of depressive disorders. The pharmacokinetic properties of 4-amino-3-hydroxypiperidine are dependent on the route of administration, bioavailability, and metabolism. The pharmacokinetics of 4-amino-3-hydroxypiperidine can be optimized by changing its structural features (e.g., by electron ionization). 4AHP inhibits glutamate metabotropic receptors and is an inhibitor of enzymes that participate in the synthesis of biogenic amines such as dopamine and serotonin.
