N-Methoxy-N-methyl-2-phenylbutanamide (MMMB) is a reactive organometallic compound that can be synthesized from the reaction of Grignard reagents with methylmagnesium bromide. MMMB is an anionic, multigram reagent that is used to prepare other more reactive compounds. MMMB can react with HgCl2 and chloral hydrate to form a Grignard reagent which, in turn, reacts with ammonia to produce ammonium chloride and methylamine.
