This compound can be hydrolyzed to give 2-[(4S)-4-tert-butyl-2,5-dioxooxazolidin-3-yl]-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine. 2-[(4S)-4-tert-Butyl 4,5 -dihydro -2 oxazolyl] 5 (trifluoromethyl) pyridine is used as a coupling reagent in organic synthesis and has been shown to have optical activity.
