Product Information
(S)-4,4-Dimethylpyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid (DMP) is an anti-cancer drug that has been shown to be effective against cancer cells. DMP is a prodrug that can be activated by enzymatic or chemical hydrolysis to form the active compound, 4,4-dimethylpyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid. This drug inhibits the growth of tumor cells by binding with DNA and RNA, which prevents transcription and translation of proteins. The binding also causes dimerization of protein molecules, which blocks cell division and eventually leads to cell death. The affinity of DMP for tumor cells is due to structural modifications in the nucleus that occur after activation. These modifications cause a change in the shape of the nuclear membrane and make it more permeable for DMP to enter the nucleus. DMP also activates cellular signal transducers that lead to apoptosis in cancer cells.
