Naldemedine is an opioid receptor antagonist that blocks the binding of opioids to their receptors in the central nervous system. It is used for the treatment of opioid use and opioid-induced constipation. Naldemedine has been shown to inhibit the binding of opioids to opioid receptors in peripheral tissues, including blood vessels, intestines, and urinary tract. This drug also blocks the binding of opioids to their receptors in the brain, which decreases pain sensation and prevents respiratory depression. Naldemedine has been clinically tested for its ability to prevent opioid-induced constipation in patients with chronic non-cancer pain and those who are taking long-term opioids for cancer pain management.
