Product Information
5-Acetylpyrazine-2-carbonitrile is an experimental drug that has been shown to inhibit the growth of a number of opportunistic fungal species, including Candida glabrata, Trichosporon cutaneum, and C. albicans. It is reported to be active against a wide range of fungi that are resistant to common antifungal agents such as echinocandins and amphotericin B. 5-Acetylpyrazine-2-carbonitrile is synthesized by the conversion of acetylated tyrosine with acetic anhydride and 2-cyanoacetamide in the presence of sodium cyanide and potassium cyanide. The synthesis is completed by reduction with sodium borohydride.
