Product Information
4-Hydroxy-1-(piperidin-4-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one is an organic compound that is a multistep synthesis. It is used as a starting material for the preparation of other compounds and it can be prepared through the reductive esterification of 2,4-dichloroacetophenone with piperidine. This reaction produces a mixture of 4-hydroxy-1-(piperidin-4-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one and 2,4,5,-trichloroacetophenone. The desired product can then be isolated by selective crystallization from ethanol. Reductive esterification can also be achieved using sodium triacetoxyborohydride in DMSO as solvent at room temperature.
