3-(Benzylsulfamoyl)-4-methylbenzoic acid is a benzylsulfonamide derivative. It is a competitive inhibitor of the GABA-A receptor, with a Ki value of 3.2 nM. The binding site of 3-(Benzylsulfamoyl)-4-methylbenzoic acid on the GABA-A receptor is located at the interface between the alpha and beta subunits. This compound has been shown to block neuronal calcium currents in rat hippocampal neurons and to inhibit acetylcholine release in synaptosomes from rat brain.
