Product Information

Name:
Emixustat hydrochloride
Synonyms:
  • (1R)-3-amino-1-[3-(cyclohexylmethoxy)phenyl]propan-1-ol,hydrochloride
Description:

Emixustat hydrochloride is an orally available compound that has been shown to be effective in treating age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in wild-type mice. It is a lipofuscin inhibitor which prevents accumulation of lipofuscin, a yellowish material found in the retinal pigment epithelium and choroid. Emixustat hydrochloride also inhibits choroidal neovascularization and proliferative diabetic retinopathy, which are processes that lead to AMD. The drug has been shown to inhibit cation channels, which may be responsible for its pharmacodynamic effect on light exposure.
