Product Information
Bivalirudin is a direct thrombin inhibitor that binds to the active site of thrombin, preventing it from binding to endothelial cells and initiating blood clotting. Bivalirudin has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the activity of human serum heparinases in vitro. Bivalirudin TFA is used for the treatment of patients with bowel disease, infarction, or angina that are at risk for myocardial infarction. It inhibits platelet aggregation by blocking thrombin-induced activation of platelet factor 4 and adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptors on platelets. The bivalent covalent bond between bivalirudin and heparin prevents the formation of an antithrombotic agent-heparin complex, thereby reducing the risk of bleeding complications.
