L-Serine 7-amido-4-methylcoumarin hydrochloride is a fluorescent substrate that can be used as an enzyme substrate for detecting L-serine dehydratase. The reaction is based on the conversion of L-serine to L-serinol by the enzyme, with subsequent oxidation of the amine group to form a fluorescent product. This product has been shown to be a high quality ligand. It has been used in the detection of bacterial spores and in the diagnosis of bovine mastitis.
