Product Information
6-Hydroxy-3-methoxy-2-methylbenzoic acid is a synthetic organic compound. It can be synthesized from the reaction of dimethyl carbonate and thionyl chloride, which yields 6-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzoic acid methyl ester. This product can also be prepared by the reaction of butene with chloroacetic acid, followed by hydrolysis with potassium carbonate to yield 6-hydoxychloroacetic acid. The final step entails the addition of diethyl malonate, which yields the desired product. Other methods include using methyl iodide as a reagent for converting 4-hydroxycoumarin to 6-hydroxycoumarin, or using methylamine as a reagent for converting 4-(methylthio)coumarin to 6-(methylthio)coumarin.
