Description:
2-Bromoacetaldehyde is a reactive liquid that will react violently with anhydrous sodium, producing bromoacetaldehyde and hydrochloric acid. The reaction of 2-bromoacetaldehyde with alcohol residue yields the corresponding acetal. 2-Bromoacetaldehyde also reacts with hydroxyl groups to produce aldehydes. It has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent against wild-type strains of bacteria, as well as rat liver microsomes in the presence of 5-membered heteroaryl compounds.
