6-Methyl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-carbazole is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C8H6N. It is a yellow solid that reacts with cyclohexanone and hydrochloric acid to produce p-toluenesulfonic acid. This reaction can be carried out at room temperature in the presence of an organic solvent such as methanol or isopropanol. The yield of this reaction can be increased by adding p-toluenesulfonic acid to the mixture as a catalyst. The product can then be purified by filtration and recrystallization or by passing it through a column packed with an adsorbent such as activated charcoal. The cyclohexanone and hydrochloric acid are reacted in the presence of heat and p-toluenesulfonic acid to produce 6 methyl 2,3,4,9 tetrahydro 1H
