Description:
2-(Hydroxymethyl)anthraquinone is a prenylated anthraquinone. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on cancer cells, with low doses showing anti-cancer activity. 2-(Hydroxymethyl)anthraquinone binds to receptors in cancer cells and can activate the transfer of electrons from NADH to electron transport chain complexes, inhibiting cell growth.
2-(Hydroxymethyl)anthraquinone also has anticancer activity by binding to DNA, which prevents transcription and replication.
