Product Information

Name:
2-Acetyl-5,6-dimethoxybenzofuran
Description:

2-Acetyl-5,6-dimethoxybenzofuran is an organic compound that was originally synthesized by the irradiation of eupatorium. It is a heterocycle which contains a benzofuran ring fused with an acetyl group and a methoxy group. The synthesis of this compound has been studied extensively by chemists because it can be used to produce other heterocycles, such as spathulenol and eupatarone. These compounds are found in natural products such as the plant Eupatorium coelestinum. 2-Acetyl-5,6-dimethoxybenzofuran is also used for research purposes to study the biosynthesis of benzofurans and has been shown to have antibacterial properties against certain organisms.
