Diethyl cinnamylphosphonate is a protonated ionic compound that is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux. This molecule encompasses a cycloalkenyl and heteroaromatic ring, and is chemically stable in acidic conditions. Diethyl cinnamylphosphonate has been shown to have neuropathic pain-relieving properties that are similar to those of other drugs that block metabotropic glutamate receptors, such as phenytoin. The sensitivity of this drug towards the cycloalkenyl group has been reported to be lower than the sensitivity of other drugs towards phenyl groups.
