Sodium 2-(2-aminophenyl)-2-oxoacetate is a chromogenic substrate that is used to detect the presence of unsymmetrical indoxyl, cytochemical. The fluorescence of this compound is quenched by anions and esterases. This product can be applied as a histochemical staining agent for the detection of cellular enzymes and also in antitumor therapy. It is possible to apply this product for the detection of cancer cells or for the study of their metabolic pathways. The absorption spectrum has been measured using a spectrophotometer and found to range from 240 nm to 350 nm with a maximum at 280 nm.
