2-Isothiocyanato-2,4,4-trimethylpentane is a homologue of 2-isothiocyanatohexane. It is a reactive aliphatic hydrocarbon with a molecular weight of 144.14 g/mol. The compound has been shown to dimerize to form linear isomers that have different reactivities. 2-Isothiocyanato-2,4,4-trimethylpentane has been shown to be a gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GCMS) traceable reference material for the analysis of isobutene in hydrocarbon mixtures. This compound also has cationic polymerization properties and can be used as an abiotic polymerization initiator.
