2-(8-Bromooctyl)isoindoline-1,3-dione is a chelating agent that can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of propyl bromoacetate. It is synthesized by the dialkylation of 2-(propyl)isoindoline-1,3-dione with bromoacetyl chloride. The resulting product is hydrolyzed by triethylamine to yield the desired product. This compound has been shown to form a chelate with metal ions such as zinc and copper. 2-(8-Bromooctyl)isoindoline-1,3-dione also reacts with aminopropyl dglucose to give a functionalized product.
