Triacetylhydroxylamine is a pharmacological agent that is used to prevent cisplatin-induced renal toxicity. It is also used to protect the liver from the hepatotoxic effects of nitroprusside, urea nitrogen, and glutathione depletion. The mechanism of action of triacetylhydroxylamine in the kidney is not entirely clear, but it may be related to its ability to scavenge malondialdehyde and other lipid peroxidation products. In addition, triacetylhydroxylamine might act as a scavenger for reactive oxygen species by reacting with peroxide radicals or by inhibiting their formation.
Triacetylhydroxylamine has been shown to have protective effects against acetate extract-induced renal toxicity in rats. This drug can decrease markers of lipid peroxidation such as thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) and malondialdehyde levels in the kidneys. Triacet
