Triethoxy(isobutyl)silane is a diphenyl ether that is used as a film-forming polymer. The most common use of this compound is in the analytical method for determining the concentration of copper chloride in water vapor. Triethoxy(isobutyl)silane reacts with copper chloride to form an insoluble copper chloride compound, which can be detected by infrared spectroscopy. Additionally, triethoxy(isobutyl)silane has been shown to have hydrophobic properties and can be used as a catalyst for reactions involving fatty acids or inorganic acids. Triethoxy(isobutyl)silane has also been shown to react with polyvinyl alcohol, glycol ethers, and fatty acids to form water-soluble films.
