(R)-1-(Naphthalen-1-yl)ethanol is a homochiral compound that belongs to the class of oxazolidinones. It has been shown to inhibit growth of Candida parapsilosis, an anionic yeast, by binding to its cell wall and disrupting the membrane. This active form is also capable of inhibiting anion transport in bacteria. The mechanism of action may be due to its affinity for anions or its ability to bind to biomolecules such as proteins or nucleic acids. (R)-1-(Naphthalen-1-yl)ethanol can be used as a chiral transfer agent in reactions with ruthenium complexes and it has been shown that it does not affect the rates of desymmetrization or constant reactions.
