Description:

2-Aminoethyl n-propyl ether (APEE) is a modified aminoethoxyethanol, which has been used as a probe for the identification of phosphodiesterase (PDE) enzymes. The reaction system is analysed and optimised, applying it to biosystematics and genetic studies. Modifications have been made to APEE to create derivatives that are active against the PDE5 enzyme. Piperidine and pyridine were functionalised on APEE with different substituents, in order to modify the physicochemical properties of the molecule. These modifications were assessed through profiling experiments in order to identify the most suitable derivative for use as a drug candidate.
