Product Information

Name:
1,1'-Dithiodi-2-naphthtol
Description:

Dithiodi-2-naphthol is a histochemical stain that reacts with the amino groups of proteins and is used in the diagnosis of glandular epitheliomas. It reacts with the amido groups of mucopolysaccharides, and can be used to identify basal-cell carcinomas. The reaction product is a red or purple color that persists after washing. When stained with dinitrofluorobenzene, it produces a black color that is more resistant to fading. Dithiodi-2-naphthol has been used as a model system for studying reactive oxygen species in cancerous cells. It also has some use as an indicator for hydrochloric acid, due to the formation of diazonium salt which gives a characteristic blue coloration when treated with an alkali.
