Description

[(2,2-Diethoxyethoxy)methyl]benzene is a pyridone that is used in the synthesis of chameleon compounds. It has been shown to catalyze the asymmetric epoxidation of alkenes and the asymmetric synthesis of alpha-amino acids. [(2,2-Diethoxyethoxy)methyl]benzene can also be used in asymmetric kinetic resolutions as a nucleophile or as a catalyst for asymmetric substitution reactions. [(2,2-Diethoxyethoxy)methyl]benzene has been shown to inhibit neuraminidase by binding to its active site and blocking the cleavage of sialic acid from glycoproteins. The molecular structure of this molecule consists of two ethyl groups bonded to each other on one side and two methyl groups on the other side.
