(Cyanomethyl)(trimethyl)phosphonium iodide is a phosphonium salt used in the synthesis of amides. The asymmetric synthesis of the amide can be achieved by using this compound as a chiral reagent. It also inhibits cholesterol acyltransferase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of fatty acids from coenzyme A to cholesterol.
