- 4-Nitroacridine
4-Nitroacridin (4NA) is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. 4NA inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the DNA gyrase enzyme and inhibiting its function. It also binds to the ribosomal RNA of these bacteria and inhibits protein synthesis. The chemical structure of 4NA is similar to acridone, which is found in tobacco leaves, and formic acid, which is found in formaldehyde. The profile of 4NA is not yet known.
