Product Information

Name:
2-Hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylacetonitrile
Description:

2-Hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylacetonitrile is a lactone that is extracted from the leaves of Simmondsia californica. It is monitored for its potential use in food chemistry, as it has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of d-glucose. 2-Hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylacetonitrile was first isolated and identified by spectroscopy and chemical analysis of jojoba oil. It is also used in pharmacological reactions, such as the synthesis of benzene derivatives. The mechanism of 2-Hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylacetonitrile's reaction with substituted phenols is initiated by deprotonation at the alpha position, which leads to the formation of an enolate intermediate and consequently a beta hydroxy ketone product.
