1-Trityl-1H-imidazole-2-carboxaldehyde is a formylating agent that inhibits tumor growth and has anti-proliferative effects. It binds to the c-h bond of imidazoles in human prostate cells and forms a stable, cell cycle-specific metabolite. This metabolite has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in vivo. 1-Trityl-1H-imidazole-2-carboxaldehyde may be useful as a chemotherapeutic agent for prostate cancer or other cancers with similar metabolic profiles.
